Ways to help when time and resources are limited.

BUY FEWER CLOTHES It’s better for your wallet and the environment! To combat impulse purchases, wait a day before you hit the checkout button. Ask yourself whether an item is just trendy, if you’re stress shopping, or if this is an item you truly will benefit from.

SHOP at secondhand stores. Instead of buying clothes from fast-fashion stores, find hidden treasures in thrift stores. Browse from anywhere with online options such as ThredUp or Thrifted. You’ll score one-of-a-kind pieces and save money.

WATCH The True Cost, a film directed by Andrew Morgan that focuses on fast fashion.

WATCH The 2017 documentary RiverBlue to learn about fast fashion’s “hydrocide,” or the contamination of clean water for commercial gain. Rent on Vimeo or Amazon

Tools for contributing when you have more time or resources

ATTEND or HOST a clothing swap. Instead of donating unworn clothing, see if a friend or family member would like to swap for some of the pieces they no longer wear.

RESEARCH BRANDS using the Good On You app or website when buying new clothing. Make sure you stand by the brands you support. Vote with your dollars.

Options for ongoing and sustainable engagement.

ASK brands #WhoMadeMyClothes to support transparency in the fashion industry and fair treatment for garment workers. The campaign also includes a form letter generator to email brands about sustainable fashion practices.

PACE YOURSELF. Shifting to a conscious lifestyle can feel overwhelming and stressful. Take it one step at a time and remember that balance is key. Small changes can add up to a big impact.
